When you're evaluating a Dynamics 365 implementation partner, you probably check their Google Maps reviews and client testimonials. But how many of you also check their Glassdoor ratings? Most don't. Yet employee satisfaction can reveal problems that client reviews won't—turnover, quality control issues, and cultural red flags that may affect your project delivery.

To understand this relationship, we analyzed 409 Dynamics 365 partners with publicly available Glassdoor and Google Maps reviews. What we found was surprising: the correlation between employee satisfaction and client satisfaction is weak (r = 0.120), and it's even more interesting when you look at the four partner archetypes that emerge from the data.

Why the Weak Correlation Exists

At first, the weak correlation between Glassdoor and Google Maps scores seems counterintuitive. Surely happy employees lead to better client outcomes? The answer is more nuanced than you'd think.

Client satisfaction measures the perceived value of the solution delivered. A partner might struggle with company culture or retention but still execute projects efficiently. Conversely, a partner with excellent workplace culture might overpromise on deliverables or charge premium prices that clients resent.

The gap also reflects different reviewer populations. Glassdoor reviews come from current and former employees who experience day-to-day operations. Google Maps reviews come from paying clients who judge the partner based on outcomes and responsiveness. These are two completely different lenses on the same organization.

The Four Partner Archetypes

Rather than thinking of partner quality as a single number, it's more useful to segment the market by quadrant:

Gold Standard partners deliver strong results on both fronts. With an average Google Maps rating of 4.94 and Glassdoor rating of 4.33, they've built sustainable businesses where employees are engaged and clients are satisfied.

These firms tend to be larger, more established, and invest heavily in training and culture. The downside? They're more expensive. You're paying for consistency and reliability, but you're also paying a premium for it. If you have a budget that supports it, Gold Standard partners are your lowest-risk option.

Client Winners (21.3%): High Reward, Hidden Risk

Client Winners are the most interesting group: they maintain excellent client satisfaction (4.94 on Google Maps) despite significantly lower employee ratings (3.11 on Glassdoor). These are typically smaller, lean firms that have optimized for efficiency.

The risk here is real. Low Glassdoor scores often correlate with high turnover. When key team members leave mid-project, project continuity suffers. If you work with a Client Winner, protect yourself by:

  • Negotiating key personnel clauses in your contract
  • Requiring written knowledge transfer protocols
  • Building in contingency timelines for staff transitions
  • Asking specifically about their staffing stability in discovery meetings

Employee Winners (20.3%): Good Culture, Delivery Gaps

Employee Winners have strong workplace cultures (4.27 on Glassdoor) but lower client satisfaction (3.70 on Google Maps). These partners typically score well on culture and work-life balance, which attracts talented staff. Yet somehow, client outcomes suffer.

The causes vary: scope creep, over-promising, communication gaps, or simply internal inefficiency that doesn't translate to happy employees but does affect client delivery. Before engaging an Employee Winner, ask:

  • What's their project success rate? (Track from references, not their marketing.)
  • Do they have formal change management and scope control processes?
  • What's their historical timeline variance—do projects tend to run over?
  • How do they handle project escalations?

Both Below Median (28.6%): Caution Advised

Nearly 30% of the market falls into both-below-median territory—struggling with both employee and client satisfaction. These firms face systemic challenges: they're losing talented people, and clients aren't happy with the results.

There are exceptions: newly founded firms or firms pivoting to Dynamics 365 may have low review volume and skewed ratings. But if you're seeing a pattern of low scores on both platforms, that's a red flag worth investigating further.

The Gap Distribution: Why 41.6% Are Mismatched

We calculated the gap between each partner's Google Maps and Glassdoor scores. Partners with gaps larger than one standard deviation fall into the mismatch category. The average gap across all partners is 1.04 stars, with high variance—some firms show gaps as large as 2.5 stars.

This mismatch reveals operational structures that don't align their internal and external outcomes. Understanding which direction the gap goes tells you something different:

High client scores + low employee scores (Client Winners): Extractive business model, high pressure, lean operations. Watch for burnout and turnover.

High employee scores + low client scores (Employee Winners): Possible scope creep tolerance, weak project controls, or overstaffing relative to output.

How to Use This Data in Your Partner Selection

Glassdoor shouldn't be your only data source—client references, certifications, and technical depth matter far more. But it's a useful secondary signal:

  1. Check both scores. If a partner has strong Google Maps reviews, cross-reference Glassdoor to see if they're in the Gold Standard or Client Winner quadrant.
  2. Ask about the gap in your discovery call. High mismatches warrant clarifying questions about project methodology and staff stability.
  3. Weight the mismatch type. Client Winners are often viable—just require contractual protections. Employee Winners warrant deeper investigation.
  4. Consider your risk tolerance. Gold Standard is safer but pricier. Client Winners offer value but require oversight. Employee Winners are riskier on delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I avoid partners with low Glassdoor scores?

Not automatically. If they're Client Winners with strong Google Maps reviews, they're still delivering value to clients. The question is whether their staffing instability poses a risk to your specific project. Ask for references and staff retention data before deciding.

What's a "good" Glassdoor score for a D365 partner?

The average across our dataset is 3.74. Scores above 4.0 suggest stable operations and reasonable employee engagement. Below 3.0 is a warning sign, especially in combination with low client scores.

Methodology

Dataset: We analyzed 409 Dynamics 365 implementation partners with publicly available reviews on both Google Maps and Glassdoor. Partners were identified through Microsoft's Dynamics 365 partner directory and verified via PartnerSource. Only partners with at least 5 reviews on each platform were included to ensure statistical reliability.

Analytical Approach: We calculated Pearson correlation between Glassdoor ratings and Google Maps ratings to measure overall relationship strength. We then segmented partners into four quadrants (high/low on each platform) using median thresholds (Glassdoor median = 3.74, Google Maps median = 4.25). Partner counts, average scores, and gap distributions were computed for each quadrant. Gaps were calculated as the absolute difference between each partner's two scores.

Limitations: This analysis reflects *rated* partners only; firms without online reviews are excluded. Google Maps and Glassdoor reviews are self-selected and may not represent silent majorities. Small firms have higher variance due to review volume. Scores also reflect point-in-time snapshots and may shift as new reviews accumulate. Geographic and industry variations are not fully controlled in this cross-sectional analysis.

Data Currency: Review data was collected and processed in February 2026. Partner counts and regional breakdowns reflect the active Dynamics 365 partner ecosystem as of that date.
